A construction of the noncommutative-geometric counterparts of classical classifying spaces is presented, for general compact matrix quantum structure groups. A quantum analogue of the classical concept of the classifying map is introduced and analyzed. Interrelations with the abstract algebraic theory of quantum characteristic classes are discussed. Various non-equivalent approaches to defining universal characteristic classes are outlined.

The Cuntz algebra carries in a natural way the structure of a module algebra over the quantized universal enveloping algebra Uq(g), and the structure of a co-module algebra over the quantum group Gq associated with Uq(g). The decomposition of an arbitrary axiomatic topological quantum field theory or TQFT into indecomposable theories is given. In particular, unitary TQFT’s in arbitrary dimensions are shown to decompose into a sum of theories in which the Hilbert space of the sphere is one-dimensional, and indecomposable two-dimensional theories are classified.

A two-parametric non-standard (Jordanian) deformation of the Lie algebra gl(2) is constructed, and then, exploited to obtain a new, triangular R-matrix solution of the coloured Yang-Baxter equation. The corresponding coloured quantum group is presented explicitly.
